Another TN United Success Story

Another TN United Success Story

Kieran MacFadden signed last week to play college soccer at Carson Newman. The kind words his father sent us are a testimonial to the achievements of the player, family and program working together to achieve Keiran's ambitions:

Kieran_4_2012.jpgFor the past 7 years Kieran has played soccer at TUSC and for that time the majority of those boys stayed together and the parents forged friendships that will last for a lifetime. He learned many valuable lessons from his coaches which lead him to the opportunity to make the ’94 ODP team when he was noticed at the TUSC camp and asked to try out for the team. This has shaped the player he is today and given him the opportunity to play the sport he loves in college. We would like to thank the DOC, his coaches and the TUSC family for the opportunities you have given us and the memories we will hold dear forever.

Sincerely,
The McFadden Family

Congratulations Kieran!

Decatur Open Cup

TN United takes teams to Decatur Open Cup Tournament

The inaugural Open Cup in Decatur Alabama played in mid April attracted almost 200 teams from around the country as well as Mexico., El Salvador and Costa Rica. TN United was well represented taking ten teams, five boys and five girls to compete from U-10 - U-14. Staying together at hotels in Huntsville proved a logistical problem but the players and parents enjoyed the comradery of being together on the road, both off the field and supporting those who were playing games at the beautiful Jack Allen complex. The event included several showcase games including top level college spring season match-ups, as well as the quality spectacle of youth teams affiliated with international clubs and MLS clubs.

The level of competition challenged our red teams over the course of the three day event. The 02 girls emerged victorious winning their tournament age group bracket with  a 4-2 victory in the finals. Congratulations to all who participated, especially the 02 girls. It was good to see so many of our players in one place congregating under the newly purchased TN United tents which should be a fixture at our own tournament and other events to come.

TUSC shines at ODP

TN UNITED PLAYERS MAKE ODP SQUADS

99GirlsODP.jpg

Players who were trying to make teams were either invited or went through a selection process in November and December last year. The boy’s teams have now already played in a sub-regional event in Winston Salem NC and the girls in a sub-regional event in Gainesville GA. Younger ODP players also travelled to Birmingham AL for some game experience against our neighbor state at the end of January.

Matt Nelson (95 boys) will be representing our club at the ODP national championships in Frisco Texas in March while the remaining teams go to the southeastern showcase in Decatur AL.

This of course all leads to the regional 3 camp for boys in Tuscaloosa and girls at Montevallo in July which is the culmination of the ODP season.

A new group of 2000 (birth year) players will get an introduction to the program at the Academy Camp June 8-10th at the Baylor School in Chattanooga. This camp is on a first come, first served basis and fills up quickly. For signup and more information http://www.tnsoccer.org/Assets/1999+aca+camp+info.pdf

TUSC - Pipeline to College Soccer

TN United – Pipeline to College Soccer

With three current and four ex college coaches amongst their ranks, it’s no surprise that TN United continues to produce and guide a large number of players toward college soccer programs where they continue their stellar careers.

“We tend to focus our recruitment efforts toward players at major select/travel programs”’ says Cumberland University coach Gavin McKinney. “Unlike other traditional sports where high school teams are the proving ground for players, in soccer the more talented players tend to showcase their talents to us in the club system… at ODP, in state leagues and major tournaments. The level of play and coaching is just so much better in this environment and we can scout  more athletes capable of playing at the next level.”

This past year was no different with a fresh batch of TN United players either enjoying their Freshman year in their new college program or signing commitment letters to play next Fall.

We’ve compiled a roster below of our recent program graduates. If you know of others, let us know and we’ll add them to the list and recognize their achievements and commitment to the game.

TN United is also becoming renowned as a breeding ground for college goalkeeping standouts.

Since Paul Gilbert (’88) signed with Division 1 University, Liberty before going on to begin his coaching career at the famous Darlington Academy, TN United has pumped out top shot stoppers year after year.

Jamie Landham at Union is followed by Zach Gutzman, Hayden Coffman,Tyler West, Jessica Estes, Squirt Surdum, MacKenzie Keele (now playing on the field) and Marina Parker. With ODP goalkeepers Kyle Sanginerio, Matt Nelson, Caroline Robinson, Makensie Cotter and top prospect Austin Kail  to come, the future looks bright.

New U8 Academy Program an Outstanding Success

TUSC is coming to the end of the first season of the U-8 academy at our club. In conjunction with our recreational affiliates, Hendersonville soccer club and Middle TN Futbol Club, TUSC coaches have begun to develop a program to ensure players have a grasp of the fundemental skills and techniques to succeed and have fun, whether that be at the select or recreational level.

The concepts of "one player, one ball", developing a love for the sport and a "games oriented" approach to guided discovery are the core values behind the program which has incorporated over 50 players, both boys and girls in the Friday night sessions. Our players have also had the opportunity twice this year to compete against other clubs U-8 programs, to get a taste for future competition, a basic understanding of small group tactics and an opportunity to test themselves in a more challanging environment. The program continues to evolve and we encourage players born between August 1 2003 and July 31st 2004 to participate or contact us to get further information about the program.

TUSC Coaching Staff Recognized as Amongst the Best in the State

Once again our coaching staff have been rewarded for their excellence in honors bestowed by their peers.
Four members of staff have been chosen to coach Olympic Development Program (ODP) teams for the state of TN: Bryan Johnson, Gavin McKinney, Andy Poklad, and Eric Susewind.
In addition, Andy Poklad has been named the district chairman of the Middle District - one of six districts that comprise the state soccer association in TN.
Congratulations to Eric Susewind, Daniel Fox, and Brad Camp, all of whom took their USSF C license this summer and passed.
